Can You Take Hair Vitamins While Breastfeeding? What Moms Should Know

Postpartum shedding usually starts right when you’re deep in feeding, so it’s one of the most common questions we get: can you take hair vitamins while breastfeeding? Here’s a straight, label-level answer.

The Short Answer

Many breastfeeding moms take a hair vitamin, but every mom is different, so bring the Supplement Facts label to your doctor or lactation consultant before you start. They can check it against your prenatal or postnatal and anything else you take.

What to Check on the Label

  • Biotin amount. Hair formulas often use high doses (ours has 6,000 mcg per serving). The FDA notes high-dose biotin can interfere with some lab tests, so tell your doctor before blood work.
  • Vitamin A form and amount, especially if your prenatal also has it.
  • Herbal extracts. Some hair blends add saw palmetto, ashwagandha or other herbs; ask about these specifically.
  • Overlap with your prenatal. Add up folate, zinc and vitamin D across everything you take.
  • Allergens. Our gummies contain fish (tilapia) and tree nuts (coconut).

Do Hair Vitamins Help Postpartum Shedding?

Postpartum shedding is driven by hormones and usually eases by your baby’s first birthday. Vitamins don’t switch that off, and breastfeeding raises your needs for several nutrients, which is why many moms add one.

Many moms do. Show your provider both labels so they can check combined amounts.

When should I start hair vitamins postpartum?

Many moms start around the time shedding usually begins, about 3–4 months postpartum. Check with your provider first.

How long should I take them?

Hair grows slowly, so plan on about three months of steady use.
