You gotta love postpartum advice! "Sleep when the baby sleeps", make time for self-care, follow the 5- 5-5 rule, do your kegel exercises etc etc.
One that really stood out to me was when my doctor suggested I do one "Normal" thing a day. Such as: take a shower (whaaat), go on a walk, do the laundry, eat a meal sitting down... lol as if my basic needs being met were debatable during this period.
It's no wonder Mom's feel less and less like themselves, and frankly far from beautiful... after giving birth.
Well, I took matters into my own hands. Sure, I was in the THICK of being postpartum, but I still wanted to wake up deliriously from a few hours of rest and look , well cute.
3 things I insisted on keeping up postpartum that made me feel like an actual better version of myself (with little effort) through the breastfeeding days and nights are as follows:
Lash Lifts:
Lash lifts 100% changed my life. No new mom wants to be messing with mascara while getting spit up on. I sure didn't!
I also always forget I put mascara on and then I'm rubbing my eye.. and it's a whole thing.
What I did want, was to have that doe wide-eyed look in my "trapped with a baby on my body" selfies.
In a past life I spent time and money on lash extensions, but frankly the upkeep was obnoxious.
With a lash lift and tint, I'm in and out in under an hour and good for almost 2 months with perfectly curled up lashes that completely reframe my face making me look wide-awake and more glamorous with no need for mascara.
Honestly the hour with my eyes closed is a forced break and if you find a good lash gal, you've basically got a built in therapist (love you @brows.by.ash). WIN WIN.
De-Frizzing Smoothing Hair Treatment:
Postpartum came with endless suprises for me, the least favorite of mine being the postpartum dread shed.
With that comes some wiry regrowth and if you are really being hit hard, it can come with a complete hair texture change.
No surprise, after my first son I was hit with the holy trinity.. of all three.
When my stylist suggested a non-chemical smoothing treatment I was completely game. I've tried a few different ones (Saphira, QIQI) and have to say they have been completely worth it!
Smooth, glossy, glass hair with minimal effort has made me feel so much more confident.
Of course I do highly suggest loading up on protein, iron, and taking the Baby Blues postpartum hair vitamins daily to ensure healthy regrowth and overall improved texture when doing any treatments. Remember: Healthy Hair comes from the inside so while these treatments are complete time-savers, you want to keep your growth coming in healthy and strong. The vitamins are non-negotiable for me and the improvement has been massively evident.
Laser Hair Removal:
This comes down to time-saving. Do I feel better when my body is smoother than a baby seal? SURE I do! But its seriously such a time-saver (especially living warm-weather).. to wake up and feel smooth.
I'm talking legs, under-arms, arms, bikini; the works. Not having to spend time shaving in the short shower I get before my oldest is banging on the door for a snack honestly makes such a difference.
Not to mention it's easier for me to get dressed and feel confident when I'm smooth and sleek.
I have a high pain tolerance but even the bikini laser didn't bother me- nowadays there is numbing cream and fans keeping you comfortable. The only downside is price depending on the institution but completely worth the splurge to me!
I'm always looking for beauty - time-saving hacks so PLEASE let me know in the comments if you have any of your own!
